As we close out a banner Indiana Jones year I'd like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal readers for their continued support. While Indiana Jones news will mostly likely be fairly quiet in 2009 I hope you'll all stick around as we cover other fun genre films like WATCHMEN, STAR TREK and TERMINATOR SALVATION.

Happy New Year to everyone from Ravenwood!

From StarWars.com -
"Young readers can look forward to more two-fisted globe-trotting adventure as Indiana Jones rides again in a series of middle grade fiction books. They're due out in May. HarperCollins will be publishing them in the UK, and below are a look at two covers. In the US, Scholastic will be publishing them with illustrated covers.

Continue to follow the voyages of the Starship Enterprise on its mission to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations and boldly go where no man has gone before with Star Trek: The Original Series (Remastered) - Three Season Pack in standard definition on DVD (Season One is dual format with HD on opposite side of discs).

Meticulously remastered from the original camera negative, each classic episode is presented in pristine condition with new state-of-the-art digital visual effects and a new 5.1 soundtrack. The new computer-generated Enterprise is based on the exact measurements of the original model, which now rests in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. The refurbished episodes also feature higher quality sound for the famous opening theme. The original score by Emmy® Award-winning composer Alexander Courage has been re-recorded in state-of-the-art digital stereo audio with an orchestra and a female singer belting out the famous vocals. A digitally remastered version of William Shatner’s classic original recording of the 38-word “Space, the final frontier…” monologue continues to open each episode.

Having now had time to revisit old friends it was amazing to watch these new remastered verisons. The colors and picture are amazing (visit startrek.com to see the remastering process) and sound is fantastic. Each set is crammed with extras that are well worth the watching. The documentary on the Christies auction in 2006 is, to quote Spock, fascinating.

Well worth the money these make an excellent gift -- for someone else or yourself!

Breakneck adventure doesn't let you stop for breath in this continuation of Indiana Jones's search for ancient artifacts and treasures!

Once again, archaeologist Dr. Henry Jones Jr. is on the trail of something colossal. With exotic locations, natural disasters, wild animals, ever-pesky Nazis, and a beautiful fortune hunter, Indy's quest for the Tomb of the Gods could be his most amazing and historically disturbing escapade ever!

While oversized boxes are arriving to homes across the World (ie - Sideshow Premium Format statue) I was pleasantly suprised to find the new Kotobukiya ArtFX statue on my doorstep.

Just as with all kits from Kotobukiya this one comes in an attractive, well packaged box. Upon opening it you find all the pieces laid out and ready to assemble. Within 5 minutes I had it all put together with minimum effort. And it looks great! I, for one, will sorely miss their Indiana Jones offering and wish they had been able to complete the series.

Kotobukiya's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ArtFX Theater is available from collectible dealers and online places such as Amazon.com

Wade writes in today with a cool discovery using the Sideshow Indiana Jones Premium Format statue and the Best Buy exclusive DVD Crystal Skull -

Wade writes "A few hours ago I received my 1/4 Scale Premium Indiana Jones statue and found something interesting with the Best Buy Exclusive DVD Crystal Skull also made by Sideshow. I was surprised to see that the Idol is a separate piece that can be removed ~ it uses a hidden magnet to secure to Indy's hand. Whether intentional or not, the Crystal Skull from the DVD set seems to scale and rests perfectly in Indy's hand. Use the notch beneath the Skull to fit over Indy's thumb and its ready for display. That's if collector's can overlook a younger Indy sporting a Crystal Skull. Which leads me to wonder if perhaps an "older" Indy head would have made a better exclusive offering to this excellent sculpture."
